Wilderness Goals:

Headwaters Montana believes in appropriate wilderness designation. We are supporters of Wilderness designation for roadless lands that include Forest Service Land in the Kootenai and Flathead National Forests, in the Whitefish and Galton Ranges of N.W.Montana. The Wilderness Area would be made up of the Ten Lakes WSA (Wilderness Study Area) located near Eureka, Montana and the Northern Whitefish Range on both sides of the Whitefish Divide from the Canadian Border south to the Red Meadows Rd.

The area of the Whitefish and Galton Ranges was originally proposed for wilderness designation in 1925 (40 years before the Wilderness Act was established) when it consisted of 485,000 acres of roadless lands. Currently the combined area proposed for wilderness would be about 171,000 acres. These photos are representative of the landscape of the Wilderness Area taken from a number of different vantage points. Hope you enjoy looking at them and I hope that you will support Headwaters Montana’s effort to have this land declared Wilderness.
